New Graduate Students
Congratulations on your admission to the Henry Samueli School of Engineering! All newly admitted students will receive a packet along with their admission letter. It will contain information on housing, insurance, orientation, statement of legal residence filing, and other information. In order to confirm your plans to attend UC Irvine, you must fill out a Statement of Intent to Register. This process is managed online.
Statement of Intent to Register directions: After you are admitted, an automated email message is sent congratulating you on your admission, and will instruct you to log in to the SIR (statement of intent to register) website. The site is password protected, and you will receive a log-in name and password in the email message. After deciding whether to accept or decline the offer, you will log-in to the SIR system, and indicate whether you accept the offer, and submit the SIR electronically. After submitting the SIR, UC Irvine's admission database is updated automatically to reflect the positive or negative SIR.
Orientation for New Students Entering Fall 2006: The New Graduate Student Orientation and Luncheon will take place on Thursday, September 21, 2006. All new graduate students are required to attend this general orientation. The orientation will take place in the Engineering Lecture Hall 100, 10:00am - 12:00pm followed immediately by a luncheon served at the Engineering Gateway Plaza. During the orientation, students will have the opportunity to meet with current students, department chairs, graduate advisors, faculty and staff. Dean Alexopoulos will also attend the orientation and luncheon. More information regarding the orientation will be made available as the date gets closer. Check back often for updates!

Once you arrive on campus, there are many people willing to assist you in your goals of obtaining your degree. Your chosen department contains a graduate advisor who is charged with counseling new graduate students. This faculty member will provide an introduction to the department and the various policies applicable to your major. Once you begin your coursework, and enter your department, you will be teamed-up with a faculty advisor based on mutual interests.
