Civil & Environmental Engineering Postdoctoral Scholar Position

The Center for Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Irvine announces the availability of a Postdoctoral Scholar position.

The successful candidate will be a member of a research team working on implementing a streamflow forecasting system for northern California in collaboration with researchers at the University of Washington and with the California Department of Water Resources. The responsibilities of this position include (a) real-time deployment of the UW-west-wide forecasting system over several major watersheds in the Sacramento and San Joaquin basins, (b) incorporating reservoir management models into the forecasting system, (c) model calibration at specific forecast points, and (d) participation in transfer of technology to CADWR.

The successful candidate must have strong background in hydrologic/land surface models, water resources management models such as CALSIM/HEC-ResSim, and in the use of remote sensing data in hydrologic models. She/he must also demonstrate strong communication skills as well as strong programming skills in C and/or Fortran, familiarity with Unix/Linux scripting tools and the ability to interface model output with one or more web data and graphics delivery protocols such as CGI/Perl/Java. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in software design and implementation.  A Ph.D in hydrology or closely related field is required at time of appointment.
