Postdoctoral Scholar – Seismic Behavior of Nonstructural Components

Salary: $31,668 - $40,332/year

Starting Date: June 15, 2006

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in the general area of seismic behavior of nonstructural components, with specific focus on loading protocol development for use in earthquake testing. Specific background in seismic response simulation is required and an interest in nonstructural components is desirable.

The position requires a Ph.D. in civil engineering, with an emphasis in structural engineering, and previous demonstrated accomplishments in earthquake engineering. A self-starter, who can quickly grasp fundamental elements of technical problems and provide creative solutions while working with a team of graduate students, is most desirable. The candidate should have strong working knowledge of mathematical platforms, such as MatLab (or other equivalent, e.g. Mathcad) and programming languages, such as C/C++. Good organization, communication, and writing skills are essential.

The initial appointment will be for a one-year period, with the possibility of an extension depending on performance and availability of funding.
