1. Research Interests
1. Semantic SOA
With the widespread and growing application of internet, traditional software architectures (e.g. module-based software architecture, message-driven object composition) now cannot meet the requirements for service everywhere . Although B/S architecture and some languages like Java, C# have been used to develop many application systems, the notion of platform-oriented design and programming is still dominant.
In recent years, the service-oriented architecture (SOA) based on web services technology is introduced by many organizations. However, the composition of services still need to be recognized by programmers and then implemented through hard coding.
In Grid (especially OGSA-base Grids), everything on internet is seen as a service. Virtual organizations are dynamically formed to provide complete services for resource consumers. While resources involve software modules, systems, network communicators, CPUs, memories, databases and all kinds of devices, how can these resources be properly described from the view of service. Such problems are also raised as the formal definition of services, the selection and the composition of services, etc.
Service-based software architecture is the structure of future network software. As it requires, the systems offered to users should be a set of services combined together dynamically. So, it is of great importance to study the service granularity, the formal service description, automatic selection and composition, service execution, registration and management, etc.
This project is to study the semantic SOA based software engineering methodology. It mainly involves:
Granularity design and formal description of web resources;
Design of semantics enabled service registry;
Semantics enabled service inquiry, inference and selection;
Automatic composition of semantic web services (service orchestration and choreography, etc.);
Execution of semantic web services.
2. Ontology-based web resource aggregation
Internet information is exploding at a rapid pace, but current query methods produce very poor recall rate and precision rate. To acquire more satisfying results, we consider using metadata to annotate web resources, or using metadata set to draw semantic relevancy on resources and then build ontology repository, which can be used for query inference and to locate the information users need.
Our project team has done some research on web resource aggregation, and has developed an ontology-based internet resource aggregation platform . It is successfully applied to integrate travel information on many travel sites.
The research topics of this project includes:
Development of (domain-specific) metadata sets of web resources;
Automatic acquisition of semantic relationships among web resources based on (domain-specific) metadata set, and the construction of ontology repository;
Development of visual ontology modeling tools;
Research on effective inference algorithms and the development of corresponding inference engine.
3. E-government architecture
Our national informatization strategy is to utilize e-government to drive and promote informatization, and implement informatization to expedite modernization. And e-government is also an important means to realize the transition of government functions, anti-corruption, and increase the administrative capacity of governments. In recent years, our country has invested heavily in e-government construction, and all levels of leaders has paid highly attention to it. However, the outcome could not meet the requirements. There are many reasons for that. Except for the administrative problems, an obvious one is that our technologies for e-government implementation is far from mature. In e-government there are no ERP products like in enterprise management. So, a lot needs to be studied in such topics as our e-government domain models, system framework, information sharing models.
Our project team has designed e-government solutions for Wuhan city, Hubei province and nearly 10 organizations. The idea has been adopted by many other places over our country. We plan to conduct research on the following topics:
Operation model of our governments;
Architecture of e-government systems;
Cross-domain, cross-organization and multi-level information sharing model;
Government ontology and meta modeling;
E-government platform framework.
